Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) serves the communities of West Texas through its Rural and Community Engagement Division. With a focus on providing health access points in rural areas, as well as health promotion, health workforce development, and training, we are actively improving access to healthcare in our rural communities. We also include opportunities to participate in community and rural experiences to our vast network of learners in medicine, nursing and additional programs.
The WellPoint Regional Chair of Rural Health will work with the TTUHSC Division of Rural Affairs to support increased access to quality healthcare, address health disparities, and advance health equity in rural communities in West Texas. They will also lead efforts for the School of Medicine Odessa campus by leveraging existing infrastructure and programs and implementing new policies and projects to improve access to care. The position sits at the level of the Regional Department Chairs and reports to the Regional Dean, Odessa Campus.
Major/Essential Functions
Provide leadership and partnership with community programs, education and expansion in the Permian Basin.
Provide some patient care in clinics, traveling to rural locations, and through telemedicine.
Train future healthcare providers through precepting, research and mentoring.
Execution of innovative programs and projects to improve access to care for rural populations.
Collaborate with other departments to improve resources and subspecialty access for patients.
Train future healthcare providers through precepting, research and mentoring.
Recruit and retain residents committed to rural healthcare, health equity and excellence in patient care; and establish rural clinical sites through in-person and remote telemedicine care.
Required Qualifications
MD/DO or equivalent degree.
Board Certified through ABMS.
Experience in providing patient care in rural settings.
3 years of leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Active Texas medical license.
5+ years of academic leadership experience.
Experience in project management or practice development.
