WVU Medicine’s J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital—West Virginia’s flagship academic medical center, a Level I Trauma Center, and home to the nationally recognized WVU Heart and Vascular Institute—is seeking a full-time Clinical Pharmacy Specialist to support adult Medicine and Cardiology services.
This position practices at the top of license within a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment and provides clinical coverage across a diverse set of academic teaching services. Core areas include internal medicine (Medicine 1–6), Family Medicine, Neurology/Stroke, Advanced Heart Failure, General Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Cardiac Intensive Care (based on training).
Key Responsibilities:
Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds with academic teaching teams
Provide comprehensive medication management, including pharmacokinetic and anticoagulation dosing, and execution of pharmacist-driven protocols
Perform order verification and proactive patient profile review to optimize safety and outcomes
Deliver evidence-based recommendations to providers, residents, and learners
Respond as an active member of the adult Code Blue team
Additional Expectations:
Precept pharmacy students and residents within an academic teaching environment
Engage in departmental and interdisciplinary committees
Contribute to quality improvement, medication safety, and clinical practice advancement initiatives
Schedule:
Day shift schedule with rotating weekend and holiday responsibilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided: WV: Pharmacist license through the West Virginia State Board of Pharmacy PA: Pharmacist license through the Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy MD: Pharmacist license through the Maryland Board of Pharmacy OH: Pharmacist license through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy 2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 60 days of hire date.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy.
EXPERIENCE: 1. Experience in at least ONE of the following areas: Completion of a PGY-2 Residency in an applicable clinical field Completion of a PGY-1 Residency AND Board Certified in an applicable clinical field Completion of a PGY-1 Residency AND three years of relevant pharmacist experience Three (3) years of relevant pharmacist experience AND Board Certified in an applicable clinical field.
