As the academic medical center and University Hospital for Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center is nationally recognized for clinical excellence—breaking new ground in research, training the next generation of healthcare leaders, and delivering science-driven, patient-centered care. Montefiore is ranked among the top hospitals nationally and regionally by U.S. News & World Report. For more than 100 years, we have been innovating new treatments, new procedures and new approaches to patient care, producing stellar outcomes and raising the bar for medical centers in the region and around the world.
The Rose F. Kennedy Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center (CERC) is dedicated to helping infants, children, and adults — with or at risk for developmental disabilities — to reach their potential and live fulfilling lives. Our holistic approach combines early identification and interdisciplinary care, backed by clinical research into evidence-based treatments. Together, we focus on the needs of each person by providing family-centered and culturally-sensitive care. Our impact on behalf of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is maximized by training the next generation of clinicians and through advocacy at the local, state, and national levels.
The Division of Audiology is a multi-site department serving patients from the day they are born through the life cycle. Our Division provides audiology services to upwards of 15,000 outpatients each year. We provide comprehensive services for the assessment and rehabilitation of hearing and balance disorders.
As a fourth-year extern/resident at Montefiore Medical Center/CERC, you will have the opportunity to engage in a broad range of diagnostic services, including (but not limited to) audiological evaluations for patients of all ages and developmental abilities, ABR and ASSR testing (both sedated and non-sedated), vestibular evaluations (VNGs, VEMPs, ECoGs, etc.), and evoked potential assessments. You will also have the opportunity to engage in rehabilitative services, including (but not limited to) pediatric amplification and hearing aid verification using the Verifit 2, BAHA evaluations and fittings, and Cochlear Implant evaluations and mapping.
The Division has been devoted to the education and training of new audiologists for over 30 years. Our fourth-year audiology residents not only receive expert training in diagnostic audiology with a focus on medical audiology and working with our surgeons, but they also participate in the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Other Related Disabilities (LEND) training grant. The grant is based out of the Rose F Kennedy Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center. The LEND program provides the opportunity for the audiology residents to participate in core lecture series, engage in leadership responsibilities as well as research that is presented at the annual Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Convention, and collaborate with other interns and faculty/staff from other disciplines. Other disciplines on site include (but are not limited to) developmental pediatrics, psychology, social work, psychiatry, dentistry, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.
Yes. As a LEND trainee, the audiology resident will participate in weekly core lectures. They will also attend the annual EHDI conference.
